NEIGHBOURS FOR LIFE is a Christian-led grassroots initiative that works with charitable businesses - designers, builders, suppliers, retailers and other players in the renovation industry - to bring relief to the needy, regardless of race and religion, by providing free home renovation and fitting out services.
OUR VISION is no one should live in homes broken down due to poverty.
OUR MISSION is to help the needy in our local community by providing home renovation services freely.
OUR STORY
NEIGHBOURS FOR LIFE is an initiative started in 2019 and founded by architects Hsu Hsia Pin and Eunice Khoo, partners of EHKA Studio, an architectural and interior design practice. Challenged to live out their Christian faith in the real world and inspired by the MediaCorp TV series ‘RenovAID’, they wanted to use their industry networks to serve the poorest of the poor in Singapore through home renovation.

How we started: EHKA Studio had a few social service organisation clients that run family service centres and with these contacts, they obtained a few households that required renovation but whom genuinely could not afford it. Support from local contractors, suppliers, retailers and the general public was sought. Collectively the sponsorships helped the households repair their living conditions by fixing electrical, plumbing, lighting and providing new painting, flooring, furniture, bedding, etc. NEIGHBOURS FOR LIFE were amazed at the willingness and generosity of almost everyone to donate freely to the cause.

We respect the desire for beneficiaries to maintain their privacy throughout the process.
COLLABORATE
We collaborate with Social Service Organizations that assess and recommend genuine cases to us and follow up with beneficiaries in the longer term.
FREELY GIVEN, FREELY GIVE
Nothing is charged to our beneficiaries, but we encourage them to freely give back to help others when they can.
MORE BLESSED TO GIVE
100% of sponsors' donations go to beneficiaries, and the reward to sponsors is nothing but the joy of giving.
COMPASSION
We believe God-given compassion exists in all people and even in businesses. When we show compassion to the poor, we fulfill God’s great commandment to “love our neighbours as ourselves” and we also have a glimpse of God’s own love to us.
OUR OPERATION
ZERO DOLLAR
We aim to operate a “zero-dollar” movement: one where no money is charged to beneficiaries, and no money collected from sponsors. All help is given directly to beneficiaries as goods and services. In this way, we keep our operations simple and efficient and give no room for mishandling of donations.
VOLUNTEERISM
NEIGHBOURS FOR LIFE is fully operated by volunteers - from the leaders to the back-end support to the groundwork. .
OUR PROCESS

Social Service Organisations with household cases that need our support submit their cases to us for our review and acceptance into the program. We work with these SSOs to confirm these cases are genuine cases that require sponsorship, and that renovation works will bring benefit to their issues.

We will visit the beneficiary’s home to assess their situation and identify the works required.

We will call for sponsors (businesses and the general public) according to the needs and organize their works or deliveries.

​We will publish a report on the project’s progress and completion and publicly credit all sponsors involved.

BUSINESSES - HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

We rely heavily on sponsorship of businesses to achieve our mission. Businesses participate by joining our sponsorship network. According to the cases we are handling, when their goods or services are required, we will inform them to seek sponsorship. We seek to grow our sponsorship networks so that we can distribute the sponsorship load. At any point, our sponsors are free to decline if they do not have sufficient resources at that point.
